It isn't all about being the biggest all the time.

This speck of an island (24x24) is tailor made for hiding a pirate stronghold off the coast of a larger island. It has just enough space to load it down with defenses and the basics of survival for the scurvy swashbucklers, and if volcanos are active the privateer threat may just take care of itself at some point.
